Road Etiquettes

Updated: Jul 9, 2021

Road etiquettes in general terms refers to the proper manners that a person should follow while driving or walking on roads. It is imperative that these courtesy rules be followed as they are the foundation of all traffic rules in any country. Every day hundreds of thousands of people commute to work or home or to any other place. Not following proper road etiquettes can put the life of an individual as well as the lives of people around him in danger. Being patient and cautious while driving will make you a more secure and more respectful driver.

Proper road etiquettes are not limited to just the people who are driving. It is also very important for pedestrians to follow these rules. Failing to follow road etiquettes can result in an increasing number of accidents and road rage. Therefore, it is essential that the people adhere to road etiquettes to ensure better road safety for all, drivers and pedestrians.

Be cautious, well-mannered, and patient while driving. Use your indicator and signal where you want to go and if you see somebody indicating, allow them to move and do not block them. When you are driving, you are in a more controlling and stronger position, be considerate towards the pedestrians. Don't change lanes, stick to just one lane. It is a lot safer than constantly changing lanes as it can create confusion among other drivers. Don't overtake another vehicle unless absolutely necessary. Don't go above the speed limit. If you ever find yourself in a scuffle, don't lose your temper, be patient and apologize. It will instantly calm the situation and reduce any chances of violence or road rage. Follow these road etiquettes. Setting bad road etiquettes only compromises safety in more ways than one.
