Traffic Policing and prevention of incidents of road rage

We all get excited about our driver’s license, our first car, the first long road trip, etc. We might get excited about different reasons. For some, it may feel like the first step into adulthood, for some their first responsibility for some the independence of it all, and so on. But nevertheless, it is an exciting change that may be a beginning for some.

But do we need a constant watch while we drive? Aren’t we self-sufficient to make proper and calculated decisions? And that’s the discussion I want to focus on, does visible traffic policing prevent incidents of road rage? The short and probably acceptable answer would be, ‘it might.’ It might be helpful to have some patrolling on highways, traffic signals, intersections, etc. to keep a watch on the drivers. Making sure people are being safe and not getting into quarrels. But my question is: do we need traffic policing to be responsible? And is a traffic policing efficient?

The answer to both those questions is a simple no according to me. I think when we are driving on the roads it is our personal responsibility to be safe not just for ourselves but for others too. I think that we start driving at a certain age which is believed to be the chosen age that signifies that a person is ready to be responsible and start making good decisions. I personally believe that if we are self-aware and hold ourselves accountable for our actions we would be acting in a much more responsible way. For example: if I know I am someone who is short-tempered and I lose cool easily it is my responsibility as a person to make sure that if something were to happen on the road while driving even if it is someone else’s fault I should keep my temper in check and work things out in a calm and orderly fashion. Now, let’s talk about efficiency. Is it possible to have someone monitor all the roads, streets and cars at all times? I really do not think it is practically possible. I do not think that all the people who are using the roads can be monitored at all times. So, I believe we make sure that we remember that our actions have consequences and we should keep ourselves in check.
