Just like sneezing and coughing can spread various airborne diseases, spitting in public too can be hazardous as it can be a medium of transferring harmful diseases. Spitting in public is an issue that is often neglected in India as it has become a part of the lifestyle of a vast majority of Indians. We very often see people spitting in public but make very little efforts to address this issue.
In spite of various anti-spitting laws already in place, the problem has not been dealt with efficiently. If anything, the situation has only worsened as the number of people who consume tobacco has increased and continues to increase every year. The purpose of this article is not to attack the people who consume tobacco. The idea or message behind this article is to make them aware about the hazards of spitting in public. When people spit in public, they make themselves as well as the people around them prone to diseases such as influenza, tuberculosis, common cold, and SARS and coronavirus virus. (Josephine. 2020)
It is essential for people to become responsible as only together we can fight this issue. Instead of spitting anywhere in the public, use spitting bins that have already been placed in most of the public places. Use Spitting bags as it is also ecofriendly and a pocket friendly solution to this major problem. Do not spit in areas that have been designated as spit free zones.
Keep your city clean. Don't spit in public.
Join the drive against spitting.
